Things to expect:
●You will experience labor. You are giving birth.
●If you are enduring a missed miscarriage it may take days/weeks for your body to respond and this is normal.
●All birth can look different depending on circumstance.
●All birth matters and your babies soul is with you through out this journey. Many people are surprised by the intensity of the cramping/contractions/labor and birth/fetal ejection reflex.
●You will feel the phases of labor and you are aloud to treat/support yourself like it.
●Using deep breathing exercises can help you relax and cope with the pain.
●Heating pad, ice pack or a rice sock can be used for hot and cold therapy to bring relief.
●Birth/Bleeding & cramping/contractions should begin within two weeks of the loss of your baby, but may take longer for some, all situations are different.
●Drinking raspberry leaf tea, Kombucha, The Labor tincture- may induce labor naturally. Do not use a douche or an enema.
●Labor will reach the height of intensity right before the birth of your baby (transition). At this time, and for the first hour after baby is born, bleeding may intensify, but you
should not fill more than 2 heavy maxi pads back to front in an hour.
●Bed rest may be necessary, listen to your body and nourish appropriately.
●You should rest and lay down for as much as you possibly can the following 2 weeks after birth loss
●After the first hour, bleeding should begin to lessen. If you are bleeding more
heavily than expected (filling 2 heavy maxi pads sooner than one hour at a time), call your doctor. Sometimes bleeding will stop
entirely for hours or even days before returning.
●Large gushes may release when you stand or overwork yourself, this can be a variation of normal.
●The placenta may be expelled in berry-sized pieces throughout labor. Sometimes in full depending on gestation/circumstances-If your baby is born in their amniotic sac, he or she may appear to look very similar to the pieces of expelled placenta.
●Many clots are normal.
●Small, fleshy, pieces of discharge are probably pieces of your uterine lining.
●Know your baby may be physically unidentifiable. Depending on when your baby passed and other factors, your baby’s condition upon delivery can vary.
●They may not be born fully intact or they may be born intact and very easy to identify. There have been cases where babies, even at very early gestations, have identifiable features, including nose, ears, hands, feet, and eyes.
●Other times it is hard
to determine baby from the placenta and clotting.
What to do:
-Hold your reusable coffee filter or strainer of choice underneath your vagina in the toilet bowl to catch everything that is being
delivered. And/or place the red mesh between the toilet bowl and toilet seat to catch what is being delivered but allow blood and urine to pass through. It may be easier to identify your baby if you catch everything as it is delivered than it is if you retrieve everything from the
toilet. You can also place bowl directly in the toilet.
-Some do this method in the tub which is also possible while sitting or squatting.
-Lay out the sheet of tinfoil/plastic wrap/wax paper on your bathroom counter or any flat surface. When your baby is born, place baby
on the foil/wrap/wax paper. Use tweezers, toothpicks or your fingers to gently clean your baby off and move them. Toilet paper, facial
tissue, paper towel and cotton swabs will stick to your baby’s fragile skin and may cause tearing.
-Physical changes happen quickly after birth. Placing your baby into the clear container with saline solution can enhance their features again and will preserve baby. The saline solution needs to be changed every 4 hours.
-Name your baby.
-Take Photographs.
-Place them upon your altar and honor them.
-Read or sing to your baby. Make memories.
-When the time feels right, you can wrap baby in a piece of fabric/cloth or wrap and place your baby in the special box or in a container of your choice. Putting a tiny piece of gauze under baby will absorb any fluids and prevent
soiling of the cloth or wrap. It will also help stabilize baby. It is important to support baby when you move them, as little ones born in
early gestations are quite fragile.
-Place baby on your alter or in your special place and take the time to heal and rest.
Steps from Heavens gain:
Directions for using the miscarriage kit:
Once you start spotting, bring the miscarriage kit into the bathroom with you.
Remove the contents of the miscarriage kit.
Fill the squirt bottle with water.
Put on the gloves.
Expand the colander by gently pushing down the center area.
Immediately after sitting down on the toilet, put the strainer under your bottom.
Strain your urine stream, clots, and everything expelled from your vaginal area.
If there are any contents in the strainer, examine those contents.
Use the squirt bottle to rinse the blood off the contents in the strainer.
Discern and distinguish blood clots from placenta, sack, cord, and baby. Pictures of baby development are below. Please understand, your baby may not look the same due to chromosomal abnormalities or decomposition that may have begun.
This may take many trips to the bathroom.
Finding your baby’s body is not 100% assured.
If you find the baby, carefully place your baby in the vessel. When you are not observing your baby, keep the baby in the bottle in the refrigerator until burial.
If you do not find the baby, clean the colander and let it air dry. Discard gloves, and place the colander back in the zip lock bag until the next trip to the bathroom. Start the process again on the next trip to the bathroom.
If you choose to use the saline bath to preserve the baby, fill the vessel with saline solution (contact lens solution will work). This will recreate a womb-like environment. Place the lid on the bottle, and lay it on its side. Observe your baby peacefully floating in saline solution. You may wish to take pictures.
If you are having genetic testing, put the placenta in the small zip lock bag, and refrigerate until you can bring it to the hospital

POSTPARTUM|
○Have a thermometer on hand + extra batteries to monitor your temp until your bleeding stops/the following 7-14days.
○You may pass clots, this is normal as long as they are not larger than a golfball and are not causing you to become delirious.
○You are welcome to post photos of your baby in The positive pregnancy journey (wombsisters) support group on facebook to be honored, witnessed and loved.
If you do not wish to or are unable to identify your baby:
○When flushing is unavoidable, consider writing a note to your baby on a small piece of tissue paper or toilet paper and flushing it
with or after.
○You can choose to bury all that is delivered even if you did not or choose not to see your baby.
○Your can keep your baby if you decide however you desire.
If you need to transfer to the hospital:
•Bring everything you passed/delivered to the hospital. You can bring this in any bag of yours, ex: a plastic storage bag or another container and carry it in a shopping bag.
•Your Baby can come in the plastic container or the special box.
•Bring a change of clothes, phone charger and extra maxi pads.
•Bring water, supplements and snacks.
•Bring a blanket (You may be cold from blood loss)
•Ask to take your baby home with you or for your baby to be returned to you after any testing. Many states allow for home burials and hospitals may be unaware of this possibility.
After Care:
-Begin supplementing immediately to boost your immune system, healing process and nutritional levels.
-Have someone stay the night with you.
-Journal, listen to music, eat warm soft foods.
-Follow up with your OB, fertility specialist and or Midwife.
-You will have bleeding and discharge (lochia) for the next 1-3 weeks.
-Use cloth pads instead of disposables if possible.
-Be mindful of the signs of postpartum depression (PPD,PPA).
-Be mindful of your bleeding/clots, they should lessen as the days pass.
-Talk to someone about how you are feeling. Consider joining The Positive pregnancy journey (wombsisters) support group online and share your baby/birthloss story to be witnessed, held space for and unconditionally loved through.
