2HBAC Story | 9lb Baby at 41wk 6days

2HBAC (second homebirth after ceserean) story of 9lb 11oz little boy.

Born at 41 weeks 6 days.

Wednesday 2/25 I was having some mild contractions in the evening after dinner but I have been struggling with prodromal pretty bad. So I didn’t think anything of it. My midwife had already planned for some induction techniques, so I wasn’t going to pay too close attention. My midwife has me take a yucky smoothie before bed in hopes it would get things going. So I laid down to rest around 11pm after tidying up. And I just felt sure that “tonight was the night” To the point that we even had cake and blew a candle out, trying to speak into existence that our baby would be born.

I woke up at 215am to a STRONG contraction. Got up to pee and couldn’t lay back down. They hurt too bad and were coming so fast. I woke my husband up to let him know this was it, but that he should rest some more if he can. I was trying to measure contractions but after 45 minutes I couldn’t anymore and called my midwife. She said to keep her updated when they were a full minute long. Not 50-55 seconds. But they were feeling intense and I was having to verbalize through things.

I didn’t end up timing anything because of the intensity and by 415 I wasn’t coping well. I really wanted to get in the birth tub. They were so strong I called her to please come. She said she would take a shower and head my way unless I thought there wasn’t time. Well, my last labor was 26 hours just counting the ACTIVE labor. So, sure. Take your time. She didn’t want me getting into the tub yet, so I settled for a shower.

The next hour and a half I labored in the shower from 430-545. Here is where I started Telling my team I couldn’t do it. I was ready to stop and just go to bed. (Transition looking back. But I thought I was way too early to be in transition) And I was thinking “I can’t do this. I am going to the hospital to get an epidural” but I didn’t say it out loud. Instead repeating “I am strong, I am capable and my baby will be born at home”

I had a contraction that told my body SQUAT so I did. It didn’t last long because it hurt but then Right after at 545 I told my sister and husband that I felt pushy and there was no way I was ready to push so soon. I was scared of swelling my cervix like I did in my last HBAC. So I tried my best not to push.

But it was history after that. I started laboring down and the fetal ejection reflex kicked in. We called the midwife who was on the way but still a little while out. So I tried breathing, no pushing.

By this time I couldn’t not get in the tub. Nothing could stop me, I was climbing in! By 605/610 and while my sister was on the phone with my midwife my body started pushing and my husband could feel our babies head in my vagina. (He says in this moment he could feel such immense power running through my entire body like nothing he had ever seen before)

At 615 my midwife walked in she supervised as my husband supported my perineum and received our baby into his hands. His head in 1 big push at 618, and two more pushes for his shoulders and body. Time of birth 620 am.

Quick. Wild. So intense. But wow. This was the ‘dream’ experience for me. I couldn’t have written it in a story book any more perfect for me.

We stayed in the tub until after our placenta was welcomed. Our baby latched immediately and is nursing so very well. Our birth assistant arrived after I climbed in bed for snuggles and took care of the hurricane that a quick labor left behind. And by 930 we were napping in bed until our older boys arrived 2 hours later.
