Hello sisters <3 xx
Hope you are all well!
I was wondering if anyone has or knows anyone that has had a home-birth with ITP (immune thrombocytopenia). I'm in my 2nd trimester (24 weeks) and my platelet count is just under the reference range and my midwife says that homebirth may not be possible. My platelets have increased since the last few blood tests. I know that platelets do drop later on in pregnancy but my haemotologist says right now she is happy with how my platelets are going. Just want an insight on anyone who has home-birthed with potential ITP! Thank you <3 x
Thank you so so much <3
I'm having lots of anxiety as my midwife hasn't been communicating with me. It's really reassuring to hear so many sisters have safely had a homebirth with ITP :)
Thank you for all the resources. I will have a great look at them and hopefully my midwife will take me on - otherwise I'll be birthing on my own with my doula ;)
Thank you again so so much :) xxx

"There is no evidence that a cesarean (c-section) is safer for the baby in a mother with a low platelet count, so the decision to have a vaginal birth or cesarean should be based on the best method of delivery given the mother’s circumstances.1 Only a very small percent of babies born to mothers with primary ITP have low platelets at birth; there are no reports that women with gestational thrombocytopenia deliver newborns with low platelet counts. Attempting to measure the platelet count of the fetus carries significant risk, so it is not advised. However, a cord blood count can be safely completed after delivery.2" https://www.pdsa.org/pregnancy.html
